Post-Pandemic Working Model
The Husband's work schedule allowed him to come home for breakfast today. While here he told me I was having a good hair day and that it would be a shame to waste it.
So I packed up my work gear and drove to the office.
At 10:30am.
Not 8am.
Nope, I showed up at the office a good 2.5 hours into the standard work day.
And no one batted an eye.
Mind you, I had already worked 2.5 hours at home and attended one virtual meeting. So I was not being a slouch.
But I think I'm finally realizing the full benefits of this flexible work environment thing.
It has only now dawned on me that I don't have to complete all 8 hours of the 8 hour work day in the same place anymore.
If I make an effort to go to the office and find it's a sad, lonely day void of people there, I can leave.
I can also start out working at home then change my mind and go work anywhere that has wifi.
A good percentage of people I *do* see in the office go home for lunch... and don't come back. They just finish working at home.
I felt guilty doing that myself. The voices in my head told me I was spoiled and being lazy for not staying all day.
The voices in my head have been embedded there for more than 50 years, and I really need to stop listening to them.
Much better for me to listen to today's voices that told me it's perfectly acceptable and healthy to start out at home so I could enjoy breakfast with The Husband and then finish my day at the office.
It's a shame it took me 2+ years to figure this out.
I may be slow, but there may be hope for me yet!
