The Readers

I have two sets of reading glasses.
And by that I don't mean that I have two pairs of glasses. I mean I have two different kinds of reading glasses.

One kind has a reading strength of +1.75 for arm's length things like computer work and the other is +2.0 for close up things like crocheting and reading books.

At first I made a purposeful effort to buy each reading strength in a different frame style. You know, to keep them straight. Work glasses were black frames; leisure glasses were a pretty blue.
But after years of losing/replacing pairs and needing to up the strength once or twice, I now have multiple reading glasses in various strengths that all have the pretty blue frames that I like best.

So, I've had to be rather diligent about which pair goes where. I need to leave the computer strength glasses at my home work station and the close up strength glasses in the living room. There's also the close up pair that I carry in my purse and the arm's length pair that I pack in my portable office gear. Then there's the arm's length pair I keep in The Husband's Jeep for weeding the garden that we laughingly refer to as my "weeding glasses"...
It's a lot to keep track of, honestly. And, like my eyesight, I'm not as sharp as I used to be.

You might be wondering how much it really matters when the strengths are so close.
Oh, but it matters.

Shortly after sitting down to work this morning, I had trouble focusing on the computer screen. Thought maybe I'd started working too early for my eyes to wake up fully, so I powered through it for a while. But it was a definite struggle. I cleaned the lenses. Adjusted the lighting in the room. Nothing seemed to help.
Then I realized if I leaned forward just a bit, the little characters on the screen looked clearer.

Sure enough, I was wearing my living room glasses instead of my computer glasses.

It matters.
