Don't get fresh with me

I followed Elder Son to the door as he left for school.  On the way, he picked up a Nerf gun and cocked it.

"You need that for school?" I asked.
"Yes.  I need it for the fresh(teenage mumble)."
"Did you say 'fresh meat' or 'freshmen'?"
Shrug.  "Same thing."
