Surprise!
It's always amusing when your son reaches into his backpack on Monday morning and pulls out a sopping wet sweatshirt that he'd left in it all weekend...
... and then he proceeds to be surprised that it's still wet.
You can go ahead and say that it'll teach him a lesson.
But it won't.

They only learn when there is a dire direct impact upon them... such as once they've grown up, moved out, and have spend their own time and money on clothing. Heh.
The inner workings of the kid mindset: Mom takes care of it... and isn't she just so fussy always asking if there is anything that needs to be taken out of the backpack. Why can't she just relax, it will all be fine.
