Dog. Gone.
Sadly, a co-worker's dog died after being hit by a car over the weekend.
While The Husband and I were discussing what we could do for her (we'll call her Lady), another co-worker (we'll call him Tramp) remarked that Lady was raised on a farm and slaughtered pigs as a child, "And yet she needs to take a day off for a dog?"
Instead of hauling off and slugging him, I calmly stated, "A pet that you live with is a whole lot different than a farm pig."
As he opened his mouth to protest, I pointed a finger at him, "And don't you dare disagree with me about it unless you no longer want your head to be attached to the rest of your body because I'm right, and you know it!"
Later, The Husband gave me an attaboy. "You threatened to decapitate Tramp, honey! That was great!"
"Yeah, but I'd at least have taken the day off to mourn him."

However, rather like a farm chicken, Tramp would have continued his life unaffected by headloss, as he obviously doesn't use it.
Oh, bravo, Leeann! Bravo!
Sounds like someone who would be improved without it. Well said!
Oh...leeann deserves a prize...
Yes Leanne is 100% correct and so are you. Pets are family.
::Standing ovation for Roses quick response and Leann's succinct description!::
Well done ladies!
Good lord, I would need far more than a day off if my pet was hit by a car.
I once took a week off and almost quit my job when my boss put down her cat because she didn't want to spend the money for a potentially life saving treatment. (And this is a woman who will drop $4000 on jewelry, just on a whim.)
My cat is essentially my child. Family.
And Leeann is spot on with her comment!
Good for you! I hope maybe... it's just possible... you made him stop and think, which in his case probably constitutes an unusual activity.
Good for you!!! :)
