Fashion Question
Okay, fashionistas, I need your help.
When man wears a suit and takes off his jacket, he still looks professionally dressed because he's wearing a tie.
When *I* wear a suit and take off my jacket, suddenly, I look like Casual Friday. Nice blouse and slacks.
How do I accessorize so that suit sans jacket still looks professional?
When I asked the husband this question, we had this conversation:
He: Oh, honey. You're asking the wrong person. You are right, though. It's not fair.
Me: Thank you. No further questions.

It really comes down to the material of the blouse. And the cut.
It needs to be a nice silk or silk blend. Also taylored ALWAYS looks more polished.
As for accessories....a nice simple necklace, and clean earrings....
If I were there I'd help you......

I live in jeans and t-shirts or sweatshirts. Dressed up to me in making sure my colors don't clash.
There ya go.
Don't clash.
I agree with Tammi (gee whiz) the cut and the fabric definitely make the difference.
hmmm..."blank stare"
i got nothing.
Thumper and C-man: See, and when you take off your jacket, you look just as dressed up as when the jacket's on.
Tammi and Carmen: That sounds like something I won't be able to find on the $5 rack at Kmart. Dang.
Now see, this is your problem: the $5 rack at Kmart!
You've gotta get a couple of nice things. It doesn't have to be Neiman Marcus, but it should be a bit more upscale than Kmart.
And you can go all black, all the time....like Andy Warhol (or at least go monotone) and call it your "uniform." Everybody will think you are "artsy."
Honey, don't rule out Kmar OR Walmart. Seriously. You'd be amazed.
And ck the clearance racks at Macy's ect. What you need is EVERYWHERE. You just need a bit of time to weed it out.....
Maybe I'll just move back up there and rent myself out as a personal shopper........
Check the clearance racks. Don't buy anything full price. Target may have something. Check there.
And get some faux pearls. Nice slacks, low heels, nice cut and material for blouse and a set of pearls will look very dressy. Also, sometimes a scarf will do it... but now we're moving into a whole other realm I've not yet mastered, yet other women have.
Accessories -- heals are good. Black stilettos ... and don't forget the whip.
