Won't you be my neighbor?
Many years ago, when I was a morning co-host, we played lots of contests.
My job was to answer the phones and get our contestants' information before going on the air.
One morning, the contestant's name was SueAnne.
Not the most common name, SueAnne...
So, I blurted out the first thing that came to my mind, "Hey! Are you my neighbor? I have a neighbor named SueAnne!"
There was stunned silence, and she quietly answered, "Uh. No. I don't think so."
"Okay. Just curious," I said, feeling stupid. "If you win, hang on the line so I can get your mailing address to send your prize."
We played the game, she won, and off the air I picked up the phone and took down her information.
"Eight-one-one..." she began her street address.
That's funny. My house number is 815.
"... Wisteria Lane..."
"SueAnne!" I shouted into the phone.
"What?"
"Do you live with Brad?"
Long.
Frightened.
Silence.
"Whyyyy?"
"You ARE my neighbor! This is Roses! We have the two little boys! They love your cat!"
"Oh my god! That's you?!?"
She had no idea her neighbors were radio people. (Heh... sounds like circus people.)
No idea that the Roses she listened to every morning was the same woman who brought over strawberries. The same woman she gave lilacs to.
She had wondered why I left the house so freaking early in the morning.
When she got home from work later that day, I walked across the yard and hand-delivered her prize.
We got a good chuckle out of that.

Roses: Stalker extraordinaire!
I've only been reading you for a speck, so please forgive me if this is common knowledge (or if you want to keep this private). What radio station are you on? Is there a podcast or stream? It would be fun to listen, since I enjoy your blog.
Mrs. Who: You were late getting home tonight. ::snicker::
DogsDontPurr: I'm flattered you asked. I've been tempted to invite folks to my station's website before. But... between the psycho woman who forgets her meds, the stalker I think I had, and the number of unknown creepy fans who might love me in an Uma Thurman way, um, I think I'll just keep that info to myself for now. :)
Oh that's awesome!! :) Ha!
