Sad Post

Someone I work with died early this morning.
Not anyone I was terribly close to, but he was a sweet man who had just beaten cancer.

Word went around the office quickly, but no memo was issued.
By the time I showed up, everyone assumed everyone else knew.

I walked in on this:
"What a lousy day this is turning out to be. First, my car wouldn't start, then Fred dies, and now I can't even get a friggin' cup of coffee!"

That's a lovely way to get bad news.
Mushed in between a crappy car and coffee withdrawals.

"Oh, sorry. I thought you knew."

Oh. Yeah.
That makes it better.
And more respectful.

Eight hours later, when I finally got over how angry I was about how I found out about "Fred", I burst into tears in the parking lot before I left for home.

Rest in peace, my friend.

I'm sorry... for all of it. I hate it when I find out about a death in some odd cold way.

I'm so sorry - that's a rotten way to find out. *sigh* I can't believe someone would even begin to equate those things... but people are just weird. I wonder how they'd feel if someone did it to them...

My condolences. Rest in peace Fred.
