When I grow up...

Just for kicks, I'll throw this out there...

I'm thinking of going back to school.
I have an associate's degree in business with an emphasis in marketing and management.  This degree is now a couple decades old.
Also, while I have no formal training in the field, I have twenty years experience in radio broadcasting.
I have an obvious interest in writing.  I have no interest at all in sales... even if it's called "account representative".  Blech.

Given what you know (or feel you know) about me, what kinds of careers should someone with my background look into?
I'm just curious what you think.  There are no right or wrong or bizarre answers to this question.  I'm open to all ideas and suggestions.
If I knew what I wanted to do, I'd have been working toward it for quite some time.  But at least now it feels like it's time to make a start.

Too bad they don't have radio shows any more. I mean the soaps and the mysteries and the like. Then you could write and be in radio.
I know, I'm dreaming.
What about your own radio station (that management thing)?

Based on what I "know" about you from reading here the past few years, I think you would make an awesome teacher. I also think you could write a book with all your stories from your radio experiences and one just dedicated to your dreams. I would buy them. And really, don't take advice from someone who is 46, has spent exactly half her life working at the exact same job and still doesn't consider herself a grownup. ;) And I have 2 children, 19 and 5 and own my third house. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Good luck. Whatever you do will be awesome, just like you.

I think you should get your own day-time talk show.

School is never a bad idea. But careers? Cripes, I still haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up...

As a guy who has spent some time behind a microphone, let me suggest this: Be a plumber. There's more money in it, and more people will end up liking and respecting you. And oddly enough, you will have to put up with less shit.

og, I think you and I could be very good friends. ;-)

Roses,
Leave out the writing for now and look at the "Business, marketing, management" along with 20 years in broadcasting... Maybe that will give you a focus..
Of course, don't listen to me because I am retiring with no fixed plan other than working in my garden and walking dogs for the Humane Society...

I'm also a non traditional student. I'd suggest looking at the college catalogues and see what majors they have and the classes offered. If the descriptions sound interesting or totally NOT interesting, you might have more direction of which way to go. What was Human Services at one college was called Family Studies at another, so you never know what might be offered for a major.

You guys are awesome! I am flattered that you actually took time to consider this.

The Husband recently looked up some employment figures for Elder Son to see how ES's chosen field is doing hiring-wise.
So, I thought I'd look up some figures of my own, see which careers will be hiring/paying in earnest in the coming years. I'll start at the top and work my way down until I see something interesting.

Heck, I got to do what I wanted to for 25 years. Why not do something that pays well for the next 15?
