B-Roll

B-roll: n. supplemental or alternate footage intercut with the main shot in an interview or documentary

The media company where I am now employed asked its summer intern to go around the city and shoot b-roll for video productions.  It's stock footage we keep on file so production guys don't have to stop in the middle of working on a project and run out to a location to film it.

One of the production guys was searching through b-roll yesterday when he found something interesting in the street scene he was planning to use. It's a simple shot looking straight down the street, an occasional car passes, trees sway in the breeze, and some distance down the sidewalk, a middle aged couple is strolling along, gesturing, and talking.
Nothing special, really.

Except...
That couple is The Husband and me.
We'd been walking to lunch.
Months ago.
When we both still worked at the radio station.

And now here's this random video clip of the two of us... at my new job.
Hilarious!

Thumper, it *is* kinda cool.

If I hadn't gotten this job, The Husband and I would still have been on this video clip, and we'd still have appeared in every production that required a shot of that street. But we'd never known it.
