War is heck.

Elder Son's buddy brought over a game called Axis and Allies.  (Apparently, he couldn't get anyone at his own house to play with him.)  It's a strategy war game that takes hours to finish.
After about four hours, his mother came by to collect him.

"Who won?" I asked as he climbed into his mother's car.
"Oh, it was kind of a tie.  We needed more time to play.  Next time, I'll have to come over earlier."  And he looked pointedly at me and nodded his head as if to prompt me to agree.  "Next time?  I'll come over sooner?"
I replied, "You mean, like, April?"

Being an ex-wargamer myself (at least before the proliferation of PC wargaming) I'll be the first to tell you that it's not unusual for such games to last days, if not weeks.

But thank God for wargaming teens. Most of the time it keeps them out of the more serious troubles of teenhood.

Wouldn't you prefer a nice game of chess?

Ah yes, war gaming. The thing that keeps my familyroom filled and my refrigerator empty - not to mention the pantry. But it IS correct that at least I know where they are...

Thank goodness for boxed mac n cheese!

As long as it doesn't include seriously powerful computers that can trace the players, and games called "Global Thermonuclear War you should be OK ...

Almost bought that for my son... it's a lot like Risk. Love the game of risk! And yes, it could take days.

Oh you need a card table so they can just leave that little game in the corner of the room and you only need to have that boy in small increments instead of for... weeks!

I love your resonse.
