Something Sunday

Okay, finally, here's something I've mentioned several times.
The famous chicken hat!

I've also made several white versions of this hat.
It is freakishly amazing how much people want this hat.

If I could afford it, I would buy 10 for my youngest's scout den. That would be hilarious!!! Those are some great hats.

Okay, now I see what you're talking about. I kept trying to get a picture in my mind of a chicken hat, and why it would be so coveted.

Those are cool. I bet you could market them, and become a gozillionaire. Go for it...

They are fantastic. Now I know what I am making everyone for Christmas. Is there an actual pattern you use, or do you play it by ear?

C-Door: I *do* make it up as I go.
But here's the general idea:
It's a simple double crochet chemo hat. I take a finished hat, fold it in half, and stitch a row of red yarn single crochets along the fold from brim to peek.
Go back and forth with single crochets; on the turns, skip 1 stitch, 5 dc in the next stitch, skip 1, and continue with sc. That makes a lump in the comb.
Each time you finish a row of sc, the comb gets taller, you see.

Oh, I'm going to make about twenty of them and give everyone in my family one for Christmas! Don't tell!

Lovely. Thanks for the directions! And the idea!

You should market those to Chick-Fil-A. I'm serious...

Oh my goodness! My grandma would have LOVED to make those! She made all kinds of stuff like that. She sold a lot of what she made to her co-workers. Christmas and Birthdays were always a hoot because we never knew what she was going to have made us. Sniff... She was a real character. Her name was Margaret but everyone called her Maggots, even my Dad, her son.
