Who are you calling chicken?

Younger Son:  When I grow up, I want to raise chickens.  Chickens are cute.

Me:  Chickens are cute when they're small and yellow.  Then they grow up ugly.

Husband:  They grow up delicious.

Elder Son:  I like to dress chickens.  In gravy.

In Hollywood, you'd need a team of script writers for this kind of witty banter.
In the Ack!Thbbbt! House, all you need is a road trip.

They may be ugly (and noisy) but the fresh eggs are SO much better than store bought. Our neighbor got some chickens last spring and every now and then her son will come over with a carton of a half dozen eggs for us. Best eggs ever!

similarly, at our house, when we were out in the barn the chickens were being mean to each other, and I said,

"Be nice to each other or, or- we'll kill you." (this is true- we kill the man ones)

Husband: "You can't say that to the kids at school."
