Big Fish

I so rarely render The Husband speechless...

The 212 pound sturgeon speared in Oshkosh last week was thought to be 100 hundred years old.
As The Husband read the story live on the air, I interrupted.

Me:  How do they know how old a fish is?
He:  I'm not sure.
Me:  Do they cut it open and count the rings? (And I started to giggle.)

The Husband, figuring I'd had my fun and was finished, continued with the story, but I chimed in again.

Me:  Is it the size?  The older the fish, the bigger it is?
He:  I don't know!
Me:  If you could ask it how old it is, you know what it'd say?
He:  I'm afraid.

And here's where I started speaking in my old lady voice:

Me:  When I was your age, we didn't have electric eels!  We had wood burning eels!
He:  Heh.

And The Husband tried to finish up the story:

He:  Officials say the second largest sturgeon...
Me:  (still in the old lady voice) I remember when Lake Winnebago was Winnebago Pond!
He:  ... was 188 pounds...
Me  We had to swim to school every day...!
He:  ... and caught three years ago.
Me:  ...UPSTREAM!

He was done.
We spent the rest of the day talking to each other in old people voices and giggling our heads off.

Thanks, Jon!

You know, when I was your age, we didn't have the internets...

A couple of the people that I work with are bio techs.
I have seen them going for that ear bone for research.
I could not remember what it was called, I had to do a search for the correct info.

Me, i just want to know if the fish is good to eat and sturgeon are.

And you are younger then I too:>)
