Piano Tuna

At what level of genius would you classify a piano student who claims he hates piano lessons because "the music is stupid"?

To clarify: He often goes to class and plays the piece for his teacher as it's written, and then plays the piece again the way he thinks it should have been written.

Is he:
Level A)  Pft! Anyone who can read music can do this.
Level B)  Really?  That sounds pretty cool.
Level C)  Seriously?  I don't know adults who can do that!

I'm thinking he's more along the lines of...
Level D) Wile E. Coyote, suuuuper genius.

But then again, I'm his mom.

D. Of course.

Does he keep an anvil over the piano just in case?

Roses, I don't know if Wile E. Coyote is really a super genius. He did take several two thousand foot drops from cliffs, and got hit by trains a lot.

Just sayin'

My eldest son (now 29) was quite similar to the son you are describing. I won't bore you with the details, but I know where you're coming from. He took two weeks of piano lessons, and his teacher told us "He's playing chords that don't exist. I mean, they sound right, but he's striking the wrong keys."

That "ear," and "creativity" that your son has should certainly be developed. It's a "gift."
