Time is relative.

Twenty minutes before school started yesterday, he was running around the house begging both his parents to drive him to school because he had a tennis meet and couldn't carry his tennis racket and ride a bike, so he'd have to walk but he'd never be able to get to school on time now if he had to walk.
Mass hysterics.

Turned out his tennis racket fit just fine in his backpack and he took off on his bike a good ten minutes earlier than he usually leaves in the morning.

Today, ten minutes before school started, he was juggling in the livingroom.
"Get ready for school!" I bellowed at him.
He gave me a look that clearly said, "Don't get your undies in a bunch," and sauntered off to his bedroom.
(Does anyone remember just yesterday?  Anyone?)

Three minutes before school started, I am pushing him out the door when he says, "Wait! I think Convention starts today!"
"What's Convention?"
"We have to wear red socks!"
"You don't have any red socks.  I don't have any red socks.  The only pair of red socks in the house are your brother's soccer socks, and he wore those to his game in the rain last night."
"But, I have to stand up in front of everyone and show off my costume!"

Show them how you spent the morning goofing off instead of being ready.
Show them that.

Bah! I used to carry a violin case riding my bike a mile to school.

It IS possible to ride a bike one-handed.
