True story... only not so funny

It's a unique experience listening to your child give a statement to police after having possibly been approached by a child enticement suspect.

Tell me you won't lie awake at 1am thinking about that.
And what might have happened if he hadn't been walking with the biggest, moose-like child in his school at the time.

Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap...

Updated to add:
The guy never touched Younger Son. He simply followed the boys along the sidewalk making conversation... which Younger Son totally fell for. When YS told his teacher about the guy the next day, she printed out a description (just a description, not pictures) of two suspects reported in a neighboring community. YS was fascinated yet horrified when one description matched his guy to a T.
Police are hopeful the lot of them had passed surveillance cameras on a nearby building and they can get a picture of the guy.
::climbs on soapbox::
If your community ever sends out alerts that a child enticement incident happened anywhere near your hometown, there's good chance the person will drive the short distance to troll for stray children. Don't think your town is too small or too big... or your kid too smart.

Someone's Guardian Angel was obviously working overtime. Lucky escape.

Thanks, Gray Monk.
The husband says Younger Son is safer than ever now because he understands how easy it is to be approached by anyone, and in the future, he will be more aware of those around him.

Scary for sure. Especially in light of the CA case about that little girl. So sad.

Super scary... actually beyond that but English is all I have. I'm so glad YS has big moosey friends.

My son was approached by one of those lovelies 4 years ago at the bus stop. He was all alone but knew enough to keep a fence between him and the creepo.
Glad your boy got away safely. If they catch the creep be prepared to testify in court in about 2 years, that is how long we had to wait and then I had to testify too. That sucked. As long as you aren't in Rac*ne County maybe it will go faster. ;)

Let yourself wallow in the What Ifs for just a little bit, otherwise they will drive you Freaking Crazy. After that you work at just being grateful that he's all right and there was a lesson learned there.

Still working on it 26 years later, personally...

OMG! I'm so glad he's ok.

This kind of thing is probably my #1 fear.

What is wrong with these people!

Big (non creepy) virtual hugs to your whole family.

Glad everyone is OK! I am sure that was plenty scary for him and for you. HUGS!

Thanks, everyone!
The (non-creepy) hugs are appreciated. :-)

Only non-creepy hugs? Dang!

Seriously, it's a twisted world out there.

Oops - forgot to make mine non-creepy :)

Holy Crap! I'm glad he said something to his teacher. And EXTRA glad he was walkin' with "moose".

My heart skipped a beat reading that. With Clone being six now and next year possibly having to ride a bus, this is one of my fears.

As a former young child that had an experience with a creepo like that (posing as the ice-cream man...thank GOD I was with a bunch of friends and their parents!)...it is one of the biggest wake-up calls a kid can get. Kinda shows ya the world isn't all that nice and fluffy...
I'm glad that Younger Son is ok...and I do hope they catch the creepo soon!

This sent chills through me.

Take your son to a counselor and/or a detective to have them dictate what he remembers. Chances are they can use that in court (so your kid doesn't have to go). Or else he'll have an 'official' record to which he can refer to remember, and won't be in court saying 'I don't remember'...which can get the pervert out of a well-deserved jail sentence.

YIKES!

I'm so afraid of just being a guy who likes watching children playing.

Unfortunately I'm a ...uhm... formidable looking fellow and while that's handy for walking around in the dangerous bits of my city at 3:00 am on a Sunday morning, it's less advantageous when parents are trying to make a threat assessment while I'm standing outside the playground.

*sigh*
