Friday Five - my 12-year-old self

Whenever I watch movies like "The Kid" starring Bruce Willis, I ponder how my 12-year-old self would feel about meeting my current self. Would she think I'm doing okay? Would she be excited by the things she has to look forward to? Would she be disappointed by things she won't achieve?

Considering I recently watched such a movie, and I am contemplating such thoughts, here are...

Five things my 12-year-old self would think about my 42-year-old life:

1) "I get to work in radio?!? That is so cool!"

2) "I have a kitty! I have a kitty that gets to live in the house instead of outside in a barn!" (I had begged my mom over and over to let me have just one cat in the house, but she had been so grossed out by previous cats licking butter on the table that she banned them for life from the inside of the house.)

3) "Niiice Coca Cola collection."

4) "Who's this cute guy in the picture? Is he your boyfriend?" "No, that's your son." "Ew! I thought he was cute!" "If it makes you feel any better, the man you marry looked just like him at that age." "Really?" "Yeah."

5) "You're forty! You really haven't written a book yet?" "No, but I have this thing on the internet called a blog, and people read stuff that I write all the time. And they like my stories." "That's cool! What's an internet?"

Well?
What does your 12-year-old self say?

My 12 year old self would blink in disbelief 15-20 times, then start crying. My 12 year old self had a stern dislike of fat people, and would hate me for what I've become. She would, however, be thrilled about the tattoos...

My 12 year old would first look at me in disgust because he didn't like fat people either. I'm not too bad but my abs are flabs for sure.....

Then I would tell him some war stories from the 1st Gulf War to impress him. Then I would tell him his dad died which would make him cry a little bit but then laugh and tell him were exactly like him now! LOL

Finally I'd show him my grown up toys and he'd want them too especially the pretty girl who I am seeing later tonight. My 12 year old self would really like her! LOL

I'm going to have to see this movie. It sounds like a lot of fun.

All I ever wanted was to be a mommy.

I'd be thrilled to know what a great bunch of boys I have.

Oh, and I always wanted a dog but my dad was asthmatic. That I've had so many dogs and different animals would have thrilled me to pieces.

I think my 12 year old self would be by turns amazed, appalled and excited. At that age I didn't have much idea of what I wanted to become or even how I would get there. I dreamed of travel, never actually expecting to do or see some of the things I have. So, as I said at the outset. He'd be astonished at where "he" was going to end up.
