Two Word DVD Review - Get Smart

Here are your two words:

"Not stupid"

Though I am a fan of the original Get Smart TV series and Steve Carell, I really did not expect the combination of the two to go well. I thought both would be a disappointment.

I. Was. Wrong.

I'd say the only thing I didn't like about this movie was how fast and furious some of the jokes came. While we were laughing at one, we'd miss the next.

We were disappointed that there weren't any extras on the DVD, but then we found the "Play Movie with Smart Takes" option. OMG! Even though we had to watch the entire movie over in order to see all the deleted scenes and bloopers embedded into it, it was totally worth it! The context in which Steve Carell says (with meaning) he has to "drop the kids off at the pool" had me rolling on the floor.

It's PG-13. There's some adult language, sexual innuendo, and some bathroom humor.
So you know the boys found it hilarious.

Now, it is true that if you are not familiar with the original TV series, you will not get the full appreciation of lines like "Sorry about that, Chief," or "Missed it by that much." But, you will still laugh.

The husband and I thought it wouldn't be worth the rental, so I'd waited to borrow it from the library for free. But now, considering how often the boys want to see certain scenes over and over, we'll probably buy a copy*!

* if it turns up in the 2-for-1 bargain bin

We saw it in the theater and loved it. I'll pony up for a copy; the Spouse Thingy will watch a movie over and over and over... =sigh=

Oh I haven't seen it yet but it's in my que.

BH never watched the series, (I KNOW!) and I made him watch one, so when I answered 'AND loving it!' he thought I was brilliant.

I am, it's true, but, you know, if you watched the series, you'd get it.
