Okay, the Second Best. April Fool's Joke. Ever

When I came home from work today, the husband warned me that the carpet in our bedroom most likely is still wet.
Meanwhile, the 10-year-old had a semi-guilty look about him.

Hm...

Here's what happened:

Being April Fool's Day, the 10-year-old decided to prank good old Dad.
He rigged up a small plastic bucket full of water over our bedroom door.

A trap which the husband tripped perfectly.
Wearing his suit.
And carrying papers.

To his immense credit, the husband did not yell.
He did not lose his temper.
He understood it was a joke, it was supposed to be funny, and (dog gone it) it was perfectly set.
But he certainly did NOT feel like laughing.

Instead, he was quiet for a very long time.

Time during which the 10-year-old quickly retrieved towels to sop up the water.
And muttered a prayer of mercy.

They relayed the story to me over supper.
At pivotal intervals, I patted the husband's hand and gave the 10-year-old stern looks.
The husband explained to the boy that it had been a well-executed prank, but the timing was poor (after a hard day at work) and water is best left in rooms where water belongs... like in the bathroom or kitchen.

The 10-year-old sheepishly admitted he had first set up a water prank in the kitchen. He had rubber-banded the kitchen sink sprayer so that when the water was turned on, the water would spray whoever was standing in front of the sink.

"But then I went to fill the bucket, and I ended up spraying myself."

That's when we all laughed.
