People can be so nice!

Stepping outside after work, I glanced across the commons to see a familiar vehicle pull up to a red light at the corner. Very clearly, I saw the neighbor lady in the passenger seat of her son-in-law's SUV. With great enthusiasm, I waved and waved until she looked over and saw me. She beamed and waved back. Then, the son-in-law in the driver's seat leaned forward to see who she was waving at...

And I realized it wasn't the son-in-law after all.

And, looking closer, I realized it wasn't even the neighbor lady smiling and waving at me.

Well, I had to walk to the intersection anyway to get to my parking lot, so I kept smiling and strode straight up to the (now) strangers' vehicle.

The (not) neighbor lady rolled down her window.

"Guess what?" I said as I drew closer. "You're not who I thought you were!"

They both laughed. "We figured as much, but it was nice that you were so happy to see us!"

And we went our separate ways feeling rather happy about nothing at all.
Go figure.

That sounds very Southern! We wave at everybody down here. My husband was once on the riding lawnmower with ugly but serviceable safety glasses. A Hell's Angel type, clad in leather and chains, roared past the house - and they both did the 'head nod' at each other.
